چکیده:

Objective In this study, removal of a sponge filter from the stomach of a red-tailed catfish by surgery is described.
Method & Materials A three years old red-tailed catfish was referred to the Aquatic Animal Health Clinic, Veterinary Medicine Faculty, Tehran University with a foreign body in the stomach. Vomiting and inactivity were the clinical signs of the fish. Stomach was atonic, and a big spongy filter was palpated in the stomach. Under general anesthesia with MS222, 100 mg per liter, gasterotomy was performed. Using physical, plain radiograph and contrast radiography, abdominal enlargement and mixed density patters foreign body in the stomach revealed.
Results & conclusion : In this process, foreign body was removed from stomach. Then stomach, muscle and skin were closed by property suture. Recovery was occurred after half and hour and after three days; the fish was recovered to the normal condition, showing increase in appetite and activity.
