چکیده:

In this paper, iron nanoparticles were prepared by reduction of Fe2+ or Fe3+ using potassium borohydride in a microemulsion system. The structure and size of the particles were investigated by XRD, TEM, and BET. The size of iron nanoparticles is less than 20 nm in average particle diameter. The surface area is within a range of about 59-79 m2/g. Reactivity of the nanoparticles towards contaminants such as nitrate and Hg2+ were also investigated. It shows that the efficiency of nitrate contaminants elimination is more than 80% and for the elimination of Hg2+ is 99.9%.
