In this paper, we report the synthesis of antimony, antimony oxide nanoparticles and the effect of doping Sb2O3 on the properties of YBa2Cu3Oy superconductor. Nanoparticles of antimony are synthesized by solid–solid reaction of antimony trichloride SbCl3 and sodium borohydride NaBH4 powders at the room temperature. Also nanoparticles of antimony oxide are synthesized by using SbCl3 and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). The structure and morphology of prepared nanoparticles are studied by XRD patterns and SEM images. The size of the most antimony and antimony oxide nanoparticles are obtained about 60 and 400 nm, respectively. To investigate the effect of antimony nanoparticles on YBa2Cu3Oy superconductor, the samples of YBa2Cu3-xSbxOy are made for different amount of x = 0.05, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3 by solid state reaction, using Y2O3, BaO2, CuO and Sb2O3 powders as starting materials. The critical current density (Jc) and microstructure of doped samples are measured and studied.
