چکیده:

Nanocrystalline alumina was synthesized by a simple sol–gel method using aluminum nitrate in acetic acid
mixed aqueous solutions. The alumina gel was then successfully transformed to α-Al2O3 through subsequent
low temperature heat treatment. The obtained gel and powders were characterized by X-ray diffractometry
(XRD), scanning electron microscopy and scanning probe microscopy. The XRD analysis showed that the
alumina was completely transformed to mono-phase, nanocrystalline α-Al2O3 (10.5nm) at 1150°C. The
concentration of acetic acid affects the amount of produced gel and the gelation time.
