Boron carbide nanoparticles were prepared by milling of commercially available (0.7μm) particles. Different amounts of these nanoparticles (5 and 10 wt %) were mixed with Al6061 powder particles (71μm) and milled for different times up to 16h. In order to investigate the effect of B4C particle sizes on milling behavior of the powder mixture, the same procedure was performed by using 90 nm and 1.2 μm B4C particles. The effect of milling time on the size and morphology of B4C and Al powder particles and their mixture was investigated by laser particle size analyzer and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
