Traditionally, in steel design procedure, some columns are not supposed to resist earthquake loads however should tolerate the lateral deformation consistent with the demand ductility, namely “leaning columns”. The seismic behavior of such columns, i.e. their stability conditions under large structural deformation is the main goal of this paper. The stability of the column of some steel braced frames are linearly/non-linearly analyzed using push–over approach by SAP2000 and ANSYS software. The weakness of the traditional evaluation of effective length factor (k) is studied and assessed. The comparison of the obtained results from those of the another investigator constitutes the last part the paper together with some recommendation for designing
