The thermal stress analysis of functionally graded beams of rectangular section is presented. At first the thermal stresses in nonhomogeneous beams are evaluated and then for two common types of functionally graded materials, namely power law FGMs and exponentially ones, the thermal stresses are computed. FGM beams are considered to be under two types of thermal loading, uniform temperature rise and nonlinear temperature distribution through the beam height. Results for the thermal stresses are obtained in the closed form.
