چکیده:

This paper predicts the residual strength of laminated composites while exposed to the fire. A thermal model is introduced for this type of composites by using the energy balance. The model calculates number of damaged laminas considering the charred thickness of the composite laminate and predicts the overall residual strength of laminate by analyzing each lamina. An experimental setup is used for measuring the thickness of the charred layer for the laminate after exposure to various heat fluxes and times. Residual strength of laminate is investigated in tensile, buckling and bending loads. Comparisons are made between the predicted results of thermal and mechanical models and those obtained experimentally.
