چکیده:

The application of enzyme to catalyze the polymerization and precipitation of aqueous phenols is focus of recent wastewater researches. The polymerized products precipitate from solution, providing an alternative to conventional treatment methods. Enzyme can act on a broad range of compounds and retains its catalytic ability over wide ranges of temperature and pH. Extracted potato, basil enzymes (PPO; polyphenol oxidase, EC 1.14.18.1) were investigated as alternatives to commercial enzymes for the catalytic removal of phenolic compounds from wastewaters. PPO successfully transformed phenol and catechol with concentration 0.1 mM over wide ranges of pH 7-11 but experienced rapid inactivation below pH 6. However, basil enzyme was catalytically slower than potato enzyme.
