چکیده:

Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) has proposed Differentiated Services (Diffserv) as a new model for providing the end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS). As new multimedia services have different QoS requirements, it is clear that the current best-effort IP services can’t provide any guarantees to deliver the traffic flows correctly and timely to the destination. Diffserv routers use metering and marking mechanisms to measuretraffic stream and properly mark them. The single rate Three Color Meter (srTCM) as described in [1] meters an IP packet stream and marks its packets either green, yellow, or red. Marking is based on a Committed Information Rate (CIR) and two associated burst sizes, a Committed Burst Size (CBS) and an Excess Burst Size (EBS). In this paper we propose a new fuzzy based metering/marking mechanism for Diffserv’s routers. It will be shown that the proposed mechanism has better QoS performance and higher utilization than srTCM mechanism.
