bsiract: Contingency screening and ranking is one of the most important issues in power system operation. There are d~fferent methods for contingency ranking. Most of them are based on a specific index. The process is to run a power flow program for each contingency in order to be able to calculate the speclfic index. The calculated indices are the criteria for contingency ranking. In most cases the contingency which has the . largest index is the most critical scenario for power system. One of the simplest indexes is based on sum of the absolute values between drflerence of bus voltages from the reference voltage. When adding these values, some weighting factors can be assigned to each bus, in order to give priority to some buses against others. Until now, these weighting factors haven’t been discussed vely accuratelv. In this paper a methodcalled "Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP)" is introduced for providing weighting factors to the buses in electric power system based on voltage seczrrify in contingency analysis.
