Operation of wind turbines has an impact on the optimal coordination of over current relays at the interconnected power systems. The issues of the concern are the influence on the time settings of over current relays. The investigation of this paper shows that, wind farm’s generators outages consideration are important as well as lines outages of power systems, because the generators of wind turbines are asynchronous type, which cannot usually sustain their fault currents’ contribution during the coordination study. It is possible that they are disconnected from the network before the fault is cleared. These features produce additional constraints in optimal coordination schemes.This paper investigates the effects of wind turbines in optimal coordination of over current relays and defines the additional terms in optimal constraints. The proposed method was applied to 230 kV Tehran power system and the results of the applied method are shown in thepaper.
