Semi-planar winding technique considered in this study provides a simple way of creating pressure vessels with various ends. However, fibers tend to slip during the winding process, which adversely affects the performance of the vessels. Therefore, the problem of assuring the stability of winding pattern and avoiding the fiber slippage is of great concern. Any deviation from geodesic path requires that the friction between the mandrel and the applied roving be sufficient to prevent slippage. In this paper the main objective is the description of the method for the determination of the coefficient of friction for filament winding applications in semi-planar winding pattern. By numerical solution for number of cylinder diameter and ellipse radii ratio of vessel dome, it can be obvious that which ratio of radii can be in range of windability.
