Corrosion phenomenon in corrosive environments is a natural hazards against stability and serviceability of reinforced concrete structures in many countries. A new method using zinc coated steel fiber-reinforced concrete has been proposed as a means to inhibit the corrosion of reinforcing steel bars. In this method, zinc coated steel fibers prevented the corrosion of reinforcing steel bars. The results of experiments conducted on fibrous concrete under a laboratory aggressive environment showed the zinc coated steel fibers in contact with the steel bars act as a sacrificial anode and embedded steel bars are cathodically protected. This paper discusses corrosion states and mechanism of protection by zinc coated steel fibers. The mechanism of zinc coated fibers as same as embedded military mines only become active when any aggressive factors try to threaten of protected target which for this study is steel bars.
